Southaven First United Methodist has a long, proud and inspired history in the city of Southaven.  Since its small beginning in December 1961 with the purchase of three and four tenths acres of land on Bunker Hill Drive, Southaven First United Methodist Church has prided itself on being a viable spiritual force in the community.  From its small band of 16 members to its present membership of 518, its mission has always been to glorify God.

The chronology is as follows:

December 1961

Land was bought at 5974 Bunker Hill Drive, the first site by a church organization in the unincorporated Southaven subdivision. 

March 1962 Tent was secured from the Methodist Conference and erected on the property to be used until a sanctuary could be built.
May 1962 First church service was held with 20 people in attendance and 16 members being placed on the church roll.  The nursery was at the home of Betty Smith Aldridge who continues to be an active member of Southaven First United Methodist Church.
July 1962 Southaven First United Methodist Church was chartered with 20 people in attendance.
August 1962 Purchased a newly constructed parsonage on Vicksburg Drive, where church was held in November 1962.
November 1962 A 4,000 square foot metal building was purchased and erected on the property.
January 1963 Official opening of metal building sanctuary, service conducted by Bishop Marvin A. Franklin.
July 1964 A 7,000 square foot brick veneer wing with nine classrooms and a pastor’s study was added.
January 1968 Church Daycare Center was opened.
February 1974 Groundbreaking ceremonies held for new sanctuary.
November 1974 First church service was held in new sanctuary.
January 1975 New sanctuary consecrated with Rev. Mack Stokes, Resident Bishop for State of Mississippi, leading the special service.
May 2006 Church Conference for adopting Resolution for Phase I of Southaven First United Methodist Church relocation project (purchase of approximately ten acres of land on Star Landing Road, sell parsonage and apply monies to purchase of land).  Resolution adopted 90:8.
August 2006 Purchased approximately ten acres of land on Star Landing Road.
November 2006 Sold parsonage on Brandywine Drive, Southaven, paid off first of two bank notes secured for purchase of land.
January 2008 Church Conference for adopting of Resolution to sell current church/daycare facility.  Resolution adopted 82:15.
February 2008 Real estate sales contract executed for sale of current facility.
August 2009

Closed on the sale at SFUMC on 8613 Bunker Hill Dr.
Church began meeting in temporary location of 2101 Colonial Hills Dr.

March 2012 Moved to the New Church on 723 Star Landing Rd.
